Hafnium metal (99.5 %)

This 3/16" wide x 3/4" long x 1/32" thick metal subjected to low and intense heat from propane torch would glow brilliant red, but would not begin to melt and upon cooling it darkened from a semi-shinny white.
Although no sublimate would form some reddish-orange oxides appears to have formed on the metal.
