Typical tools of the prospector. Many people consider the gold pan is only a means of obtaining placer gold. Although this assessment is partially correct the pan is also a very convenient tool to separate and concentrate the heavy minerals away from worthless gangue.

I can only imagine what it must have been like for the 1800’s prospector.

No doubt many a dispute between miners was resolved with the peace-maker.
